Job Description

Working closely with and reporting to the Fund Development Manager, the Development Officer, MidLevel & Major Gifts is responsible for managing a blended portfolio of current and prospective donors whose engagement with Rise reflects existing and emerging major gift potential. Sitting within the Fund Development and Communications team, this role plays a critical function by identifying, qualifying, advancing, and stewarding donors who may give personally, through community engagement, or via family or corporate foundations. Through relationship-based fundraising, the Development Officer, Major Gifts cultivates, solicits and stewards donors across multiple giving pathways, applying moves management principles to support donor growth, multi-year commitments and long-term philanthropic investment.

This role is well suited to a fundraiser who thrives at the intersection of engagement and strategy, enjoys working with donors at all stages of their philanthropic journey, and is motivated by building strong foundations for future major and legacy giving relationships. The successful candidate will bring strong interpersonal skills, sound fundraising judgement, skill in identifying and converting new prospects, and a commitment to inclusive fundraising practices, while working collaboratively with the Fund Development Manager and Fund Development and Communications Coordinator.

Job Requirements

Education: Post-secondary education (required), in relevant subject such as communications, marketing, or fundraising considered an asset.

Professional Certifications: Involvement with the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) or working toward CFRE designation is an asset.

Experience: 3-5 years or more experience of progressive non-profit fundraising experience including experience working with an individual giving, major gifts or planned giving portfolio. This experience should include managing a major gifts portfolio, meeting revenue goals for the assigned portfolio, and securing higher levels of revenue and engagement from existing and new donors where possible. Experience working with volunteers (asset)

Knowledge:

  • Fundraising principles and fund development best practices
  • Donor cultivation, stewardship, and major gift fundraising
  • Relationship-based fundraising and donor engagement strategies
  • Strong computer skills with good working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Outlook
  • Donor CRM/Keela (asset) Airtable (asset)

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational and prioritization skills, with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Comfort working across multiple giving pathways, including individual, community, corporate, and foundation support.
  • Ability to think strategically while executing tactically in a dynamic environment.
  • A collaborative, solution-focused approach and a positive team-oriented work style.
  • Commitment to inclusive fundraising practices.
  • Public speaking and presentation skills, both in person and virtually.
