Monthly Membership Newsletter: November Edition

Monthly Newsletter: November Edition
Dear Members,

November is a month that brings both reflection and momentum. As we all navigate year-end fundraising, I continue to be inspired by the creativity, resilience, and professionalism within our community. Your work ensures that generosity continues to move, even when systems around us like Canada Post can attempt to slow us down.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for National Philanthropy Day last week and congratulations to our seven Giving Hearts Awards recipients for 2025. It was a privilege to celebrate the philanthropists and volunteers who make our sector stronger. The energy in the room was a powerful reminder of the purpose that connects us.

As we look ahead to Giving Tuesday, I hope you find inspiration in this shared season of generosity and take the opportunity to remember that as a fundraiser, you make impact happen.

Thank you for the leadership you bring to Greater Vancouver’s fundraising community.

With appreciation,
Kyle Tiney, CFRE
President, AFP Greater Vancouver Chapter

2026 Vancouver Fundraising Day

AFP Greater Vancouver is proud to be the Association Partner of DM Magazine’s Vancouver Fundraising Day on Thursday, January 29, 2026 at SFU Harbour Centre. Session themes include Digital Transformation, Major Cultural Shifts, Evolving Donor Behaviour, Declining Volunteerism, Shifting Funding Trends, New AI & Data Analytics. AFP members receive 20% off standard registration rates. Session details and speakers along with registration details can be found here.

Government RelationsOn Friday, November 14, we celebrated our sector and its impact at our 28th National Philanthropy Day and Giving Hearts Award. While Parliamentary Secretary Amshen was unable to join us to celebrate, she did offer greetings from the government via video message.

For those subscribers to the Globe and Mail, you may have also seen that AFP Canada published an article (free to read), highlighting not only the impact that donors have across our country but also reinforcing why we require a dedicated secretariat for the charitable sector. I played a small role in providing context from a British Columbian perspective and have since shared this article with both Parliamentary Secretary Amshen and my Member of Parliament. I would welcome all to also share it with their local Member of Parliament.

Finally, this is my last time writing as our chapter’s Vice President of Government Relations and I would like to take the opportunity to thank all the members that participated in our advocacy work over my five years working firstly as Committee Chair followed by my time as Vice President.

With thanks,
Neil McEachern

Organizational Members

We’re excited to continue our feature spotlighting the outstanding organizations that make up AFP Greater Vancouver. Each month, we randomly select one of our local organizational members to showcase the meaningful impact they’re creating in our community.

For November, we’re proud to highlight Fraser River Discovery Centre Society — Canada’s only organization dedicated exclusively to interpreting and celebrating the Fraser River, the largest salmon-bearing river in North America. As both a designated museum and science centre, FRDCS offers dynamic programming that explores the river’s historical, environmental, and cultural significance.

Their mission? To unite the many voices and stories of the Fraser — discovering, celebrating, and inspiring passionate stewards of this vital waterway.

We’re deeply grateful to all our organizational members for the leadership, innovation, and generosity they bring to the fundraising sector. Your work uplifts communities and strengthens the future of philanthropy.

Did you know? AFP Greater Vancouver’s Organizational Membership gives your entire fundraising team access to exclusive benefits — from professional development and networking to sector-wide recognition. It’s a smart investment in your people and a powerful way to grow your impact.

Art of Financial Storytelling: Inspiring Donors Through Numbers

We’re pleased to share a FREE AFP webinar designed to help you transform financial data into a story that inspires donor confidence, trust, and action. This session will equip nonprofit leaders and fundraisers with techniques to clearly communicate how your organization’s resources are turned into meaningful impact — and why that impact matters.

You’ll explore strategies for conveying your organization’s true costs, strengthening funding proposals, and using the financial information donors care about most to make stronger asks and build deeper relationships.

This training will be available for a limited time in 2025.

Registration link and details coming soon.
