Monthly Membership Newsletter: September Edition

Monthly Newsletter: September Edition
Hi there!

I hope you’ve had a fabulous summer! I still can’t believe it’s already September and Giving Season is just around the corner (exciting!).

For those of you who I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting yet, my name is Annalissa Magleo, and I currently volunteer as Vice President, Professional Development (PD) with AFP Greater Vancouver. It’s been an honour to volunteer with AFP for nearly six years as part of the Professional Development Committee, and it continues to be one of the most rewarding ways I can give back to our profession.

I’m passionate about lifelong learning, creating opportunities that reflect what matters most to our members, and connecting with fellow fundraisers who are making a difference in our communities every day. Through AFP, I’ve had the chance to build meaningful relationships, expand my perspective, and help bring awareness to the important work we champion as fundraising professionals. I am incredibly grateful for the generosity of knowledge, mentorship, and support within our AFP community, and thankful to be part of a profession that helps strengthen organizations and communities through philanthropy.

Outside of fundraising, I’m a bit of a coffee aficionado and love exploring cafés across our beautiful city. If you’d like to connect to chat about professional development, donor engagement, stewardship, mid-level giving, or getting involved with AFP, I’d love to hear from you.

If you’ve ever thought about volunteering with AFP, I encourage you to take that leap. It’s a fantastic way to grow your network, build new skills, contribute to the future of our profession, and connect with an inspiring community of fundraising leaders.

Hope to see many of you at one of our upcoming AFP events.

Annalissa Magleo, CFRE
Vice President, Professional Development

AFP Summer Social ☀️

At the end of August, our local AFP volunteers soaked up the sunshine and came together for a summer social! A small token of appreciation for all the contributions they make to our chapter.

Thank you to all of our volunteers, including our Board Members, Chairs, and Committee Members, who dedicate their time and energy to strengthening our Chapter and, most importantly, our profession. We are so grateful for everything you do!

Build Your Fundraising Toolkit

AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course

October 1-2 | Burnaby Hospital

Fundraising can feel like a lot when you’re starting out. Donor relationships. Annual giving. Major gifts. Marketing. Volunteers. Ethics. Stewardship. And somehow, you’re supposed to understand how all of it fits together.

That’s exactly what AFP Fundamentals is designed to help with.

Over two days, you’ll learn alongside other fundraising professionals as experienced local practitioners walk you through the building blocks of a strong fundraising program.

It’s practical, comprehensive and designed to give you knowledge you can take back to your organization and actually use.

Meet the Faculty

We’re excited to share the faculty lineup for this year’s AFP Fundamentals of Fundraising Course, featuring experienced fundraising professionals from across our sector:

Kristy James — Burnaby Hospital & Community Foundation
Ryan Garnett — Harvey McKinnon Associates
Andrea Wright — The Pacific Assistance Dogs Society
Grant Monck — PGgrowth
Victoria Smith — Greater Vancouver Food Bank
Cally Wesson — BC Women’s Health Foundation
Nathania Fung — First Nations Health Foundation

Together, they’ll lead seven modules covering everything from building an integrated fundraising program and strengthening donor relationships to marketing, securing gifts, working with volunteers, management and accountability.

Designed by AFP Global for professionals with 0-4 years of fundraising experience, the course is also a great opportunity to connect with others who are building their careers in the sector.
